Within 30 days of moving to Georgia, new residents must purchase a new license plate for each vehicle. Required information includes your title or registration, proof of insurance, name and address of lien holder, and last tag receipt.

New residents from out-of-state must obtain a Georgia driver’s license within 30 days of becoming a Georgia resident. To transfer a valid license from another state in the United States, you must be at least 18 years of age and present the following documentation:
- Valid driver’s license
- Two (2) document proving residential address. However, if a customer holds a Secure DL/ID, only one (1) document is needed to prove residency. For a list of acceptable documents proving residential address, please click here.
- Proof of Georgia residency such as a bank statement issued within the past 60 days, a utility bill issued within the past 60 days, current valid lease or housing contract, employer verification (letter from employer on company letterhead stating applicant's full name and home address) or check stub stating name and address.
